Peanut Butter Delight Pupcakes

Last Sunday was my dog Winston’s 1st birthday. I made him a peanut butter flavored “pupcake” with cottage cheese frosting and a slice of bacon on top! He was so excited when I was giving him one that I was unable to take a good picture of him with it. He was so wiggly and excited! The picture above is my other dog, Hemingway, ready to take a bite of his pupcake.

We have two wonderful dogs. Hemingway is our eleven pound Yorkshire Terrier and Winston is our four pound toy poodle. My husband gave Hemingway to me as our first year wedding anniversary present. We named him Hemingway after the name of our wedding reception spot in Grand Cayman where we were married. As the months passed, the thought of getting a little playmate for Hemingway kept crossing our minds. It wasn’t until last Christmas when we went to visit my parents and their new puppy that we decided to get another one. Growing up my parents always owned poodles. I love the breed, they are intelligent, loyal, and great family dogs. So naturally I wanted a poodle. But not just any poodle, I wanted a male, chocolate colored, toy poodle…not too much to ask for, right? I finally found one and we went and picked him up on January 2nd. Hemingway and Winston have become the best friends and it is so fun to watch them play for hours on end. Here are a few of my favorite pics of “my boys” before we get onto the recipe.

Yes, that is a dog basket! I am that ridiculous! But look how much fun Hemingway is having!

Not the best quality picture (it was taken from my iphone), but one of my favorites!

  1. Haha! Love it! I love making treats for my girls, too 🙂 They are big beasts, so they get a big bowl of chicken and rice on their birthdays… and for the occasional “because I love you” treat 🙂

I love these pupcakes! Your puppies are adorable :o) I have two girls ( a golden retriever and a little cocker spaniel) and they would be happy as can be with a treat like that! Happy 1st Birthday, Winston!

Oh my goodness…the “pupcakes” are cute and your dogs are even cuter! We have an 11 pound shih-tzu poodle named Maisy who turns 2 next month and this may just be one of her presents. Happy birthday to your little Winston!

I love the pictures and the recipe. I will have to make birthday pupcakes next month (if I can wait that long) for our poodle Baci!

Your pups are so cute, I have two, a yellow lab (Sako) and a little lhasa poo (Kisses). I’ve never thought to make homemade treats for them, what a great idea. They never leave my feet when I am in the kitchen, they will be so excited when they realize the treats are for them.

  5. How cute are your pups and these pupcakes are such a cute idea, did they just love ’em?

  6. Danielle says:

Oh my goshh, your dog is SO cute! I have a yorkie too. But she has a viser thing going on. It looks like she’s wearing a viser but it’s really just the thing her hair does when it’s too long. I’ll have to try this recipe for my dog! I’m sure she’ll love it.

  12. Can you use AP flour instead of whole wheat?? My husky dog would LOVE these.. but I dont have any wheat flour on hand..

    • Christina says:

      Erin,
Yes you can use regular white all purpose flour instead of whole wheat. Let me know if your husky likes them. My two dogs go crazy every time I make them! 🙂

Gonna be a ‘downer’ here…. PLEASE don’t give bacon to your dogs! The nitrites can cause seizures. I know this personally. No ham, no bacon, no anything like that. My mini Dachshund is much happier now without the seizures and I am much happier knowing what NOT to feed her! Take the recipe and ask your vet….he’ll tell you what he/she thinks! I knew about chocolate…and onions…but had no clue about nitrite foods.

Found you last week and am loving the archives! Subscribed so I don’t miss a thing from here on out!

    • Christina says:

      Chris,
Thanks for the heads up! I had never heard that bacon was bad for your dogs. I usually don’t give my dogs “people food”, only on special occasions. Looks like I will keep to the begging strips! 😉
